Unity Tutorial 04

Good morning all, today we will be talking about another unity tutorial and challenge I have done. This tutorial was about finishing off the game with the animals and food. I learned another useful tip in creating my game. Which is, the code to destroy the animal in contact with the food. This code will be very useful when coding my bullets and targets.  I still find it very difficult understanding what each code stands for. Although I find it hard to understand them I still manage to guess at times. I can't wait to fully understand it!  The challenge was a game that the player sends the dog in catching the ball. there was many defects with this game that had to be fixed. Some of those defects were that the player spawned a ball when pressing the space bar rather than a dog. I found it very hard to find out how to spawn random balls while playing. But looking back at my previous tutorial I understood whats wrong with it. I found it very easy to fix the issue with the player spawni

Game Vision Statement

SMtraining SMtraining is a shooting game. In this game you train on different targets. There will be a timer for you to find and shoot those targets. SMtraining stands for "Single Mode Training". The genre of this game is FPS (First Person Shooter)/Action. Layout The game will be provided with a menu to start off with. This menu will contain the following, the game logo or name, a "PLAY", "WEAPON", "QUIT" button. The following are the two menu layout options I have so far: If the player presses the "WEAPON" button will bring you to a different page where you can choose between three different type of guns. The gun option will be an AK-47, Shotgun, Pistol. The layout I came up with for this page is very simple and straight to the point.  When the play chooses their gun option it will bring them back to the main menu where then can press "PLAY". When the player presses the play button it will bring them to another page were th

Unity Tutorial 03

Hi there! Today I have done another Unity Tutorial! ( Link to the tutorial ) This time we created a game that is looking down at a man/woman that is throwing food at animals to make them disappear as they are going toward the player. This tutorial better than the previous ones as I learned some techniques I could be using for my own game! I learned how to make the food to be thrown forward from the player. This technique, I believe, I could be using for the bullets of the gun. The technique for the animals can be applicable to the targets on my game as well but rather than moving forward, I'd like the targets to move left to right. This is a picture of my selection of material, player, food and animals. This is an original screenshot of my work. Yes, i know everything is odd about my choices. From the material to the chicken. The tutorials are getting harder but I love doing them! I really enjoy learning about developing game and I can't wait to start creating and finishing my

Feedback Strategies

Good morning! I hope you all are having a great day. Today I have read two articles about giving feedback. Here's what I found out! The first article is called " The Difference Between Praise and Feedback ". The reason I chose this article is because the title stood out to me. Reading this article I found a few things about feedback that I didn't know. I learned that saying "Good Job" or phrases along this line are not great ways to give feedback to your child. The better way to do it is by "process praise". Also asking questions and listening to what they have to say make a huge difference in their progress. Doing those things will increase the chance of your child to take on risks and challenges. This is a very interesting article and I suggest you guy's read it. The second article is called " How to Give Bad Feedback Without Being a Jerk ". The reason I chose this article is a mixture between the title and the image used under the

Game Idea Research

Hi all! Today I finally decided what game idea I will proceed with. Getting my feedback from my lecturer I am happy to say I will go with my first idea, which is the training shooting game. By the way if you haven't read that post heres the link to the blog post .  Getting feedback on my game ideas the two ideas I was trying to choose between were the car game and the shooting game. Doing research on game design for my other assignments and thinking about the game made me realise that the car game isn't what I'm trying to achieve as that game doesn't exactly have a goal. Thinking about the shooting game, I started to visualise what I want the game to look like. Firstly, I want the game to have different difficulty levels. I also want, if possible to have 2 or 3 gun choices to choose from. If thats too hard to do I'd like to have the option of the gun setting to choose between automatic or single shot. Finally, I would like to have a window at the top side of the sc

Unity Tutorial 02

Hi and welcome back. Today we will talk about the Unity Tutorial and a challenge I have done today. In this tutorial I learned how to control the vehicle. This tutorial was okay. I mean it wasn't too hard but it wasn't easy. It just took some time to finish. I was pretty happy to finish it and see the end result as I had control over when and where the vehicle was going.  On the other part the challenge was pretty hard. We got a game set up wrong and we had to fix it. The game was basically like flabby bird but with an airplane that you had full control where it was going. The game was also 3D. The thing that were wrong with the game were the following - The camera wasn't in the right angle and it wasn't following the plane. - The plane kept flying very fast in loops backwards - You didn't have control over what the plane was doing. The objective of this challenge was basically the opposite of those 3 points. I found this very difficult as I am still trying to get

Game Elements

Good evening and welcome back.  Today we will talk about 1 video and 2 articles about designing games. This is a screenshot of the YouTube video. (Link below) The video talks about how to come up with idea and how to create a game. They mainly focus they spoke about is that the faster you create a prototype the better the game will be at the end. They explain what a prototype means in the game industry and how you go about doing so.  The article " What are the qualities of games? " talks about what are the atomic elements of a game. Such as, Players, Objectives, Rules and so on. They also talk about what critical analysis is about when you speak about games. Critical analysis is about going in depth to analyse why a game is "fun" or not. Those people look at what can be added or removed to increase the user experience. This article also give examples of questions you should ask yourself during a critical analysis. Such as "What challenges does the player face

Feedback Thoughts

Good morning, today I have read 2 articles and I want to tell you guys about. The first article is " Why rejection hurts so much " This article talks about why we get so upset when we get rejected. One crazy fact I learn from this is that the feeling of rejection activates the part of the brain that activates physical pain. I never thought that and now why it affects us so much. This article also talk about what we can do to slowly stop the pain we feel when we get rejected. One way to do it is by saying positive comments when something like that happens rather than calling yourself a looser or anything on those lines. This article is very interesting and I really recommend checking it out as it is very interesting. The second article I have read is " Why is it so hard to hear negative feedback " Reading this article I can say that I can relate to what they say in it. I truly believe that the way you take in negative feedback can affect your well-being. They talk a

Game Brainstorm

Hi there! Today I came up with 4 game ideas. I never thought of cresting a game so coming up with a game idea I had to brain storm some things. Such as, what type of games I like playing and what I want my game to have.  So, I like competitive games. I want my game to have a competitive side to it whether thats a score or skill. I want my game to have that competitive side to it as I think it makes the game more engaging and I believe it makes people go back to the game to get a better score.  Training Shooting Game My first idea is a training shooting game. So this game will be based on skill. This idea came in my mind as I used to play CS:GO a lot and I used to always "warm up" by playing on maps made by other people to train. I want to make a game that you can just go on and prefect your aim on. I want this game to be as simple as possible. I don't want to player to move around. I want the player to stay in one place and practice only using their mouse by targets flow

Unity Tutorial 01

Hi there! Today I created my first game!! I have to say that this has been the best task I have done so far. I wasn't comfortable creating a game as I have never done it before. But, it was great. I learned how to set up my unity and how to change the layout of everything when working to make life easier. I also learned about C# Script, everything was new to me. I didn't expect it to be like this. My thoughts on creating games before doing this task was very different than it is now! I used to think that creating games was extremely hard and stressful. But this was fun. I'm pretty sure it will get harder as we start creating more complex games but so far I had a positive experience doing it.  This is how my unity window looked like when I have finished this task. This is an original screenshot of my work My favourite part of doing this task was giving the object and vehicle in a rigid body. How they can collide and they start acting like real life objects. I'm really e

Game Design

I'm glad to see you back! Today we will talk about games. I have read 3 articles that I'm excited to tell you about! Image of Pac-Man's arcade game The first article is based on the idea "What is a Game?". This article talks about what people think a game is. It says that there's no proper definition and that you will get a different answer from every person you ask that works in the industry. Reading this article the main key points that are stated are that a game is voluntary, that if you are forced to play it it's not a game anymore. The writer also talk about the structure of a game. A game has to have an objective, an outcome, and rules to get there, a conflict, and the player also have to make decisions as he/she plays the game. Games usually have a story to go with it to make it more interesting. There are also games that are more linear, that don't exactly have a story such as "Snakes and Ladders". If you want to read it in depth you

Time Strategies

Image Taken From The Internet Today we are talking about time management! Welcome back! I believe time management is very important and very easy to get into bad habits. Reading the articles I found "11 Ways Unsuccessful People Mismanage Their Time" very interesting. I think breaking down what you do every day of every weeks really opens your eyes. Doing it in the past I realised that I have so much more time to do anything I want if I start planning my time.  I personally don't like using a study plan template. I use the Reminder app on my macbook and iphone. I find it easier to keep track of my due dates and due tasks. I usually write it in this order "module name - task - due date". What I really like about the reminder is that when you tick it off is gone forever. Theres no better feeling than ticking tasks off when they are completed and not think about it again.  What I also done last year and will continue doing is setting YOUR OWN DUE DATES. For examp

Technology

Good evening. I'm back! This week I found out about some tools we will be using throughout  this semester. So far I can say I'm really excited to create graphics using canvas, cheezburger and so on. I can't wait to figure out which of those will work the best with my workflow.  I think trying out Wordpress will be good. I like the idea of trying out different tools as you never know which works best for you until you try it out!  There's a picture of the first dinner I had in Crete. I hope your craving pizza now! Because I am... See you next week! Or later on today.. Bye, Denis.

Assignments

Hi, I'm glad to see you here again. What I want to talk about is what I'm excited about going further on. I like the idea of working with Unity 3D but if I'm being honest I don't feel comfortable about it at the same time as I have never used it before. The part that caught my eye as I read it is the part about extra credit tasks. If I'm being honest, I haven't considered doing any of them until I read through it. I really like the idea of editing pictures. Also creating memes doesn't sound too bad either. Theres a picture of a seal by the way! I don't like how much we have to read for each task so far as I'm dyslexic so I struggle with it but I push through it. I don't think I have anything else to say so thank you again for stopping by and I'll see you all next time. Bye, Denis.

Growth Mindset

From watching the videos of  Carol Dweck for this weeks tasks. I can really agree with her point of view. I strongly believe that anyone can learn anything they want and the only thing in our way from learning new things or improving at something is ourselves. I don't like when people give up when something is "too hard" I really think that when you struggle is when you learn the most as you are forced to get out of your comfort zone and work around your weaknesses.  I also find people that are growth minded happier as they don't look at things as a disadvantage but more so a chance to learn more and become a better version of themselves. I think this picture  I found on Pinterest explains that very well. I also really liked the idea of using "Yet". As in "I'm not good at maths yet" rather than saying "oh I'm just sh*t at maths". I just feel like some people give up on their capability too quick when all it takes is to look at ch

Introduction To Someone

Welcome back! So today I will introduce myself. Talk about things I like doing and things I don't. Well, I'm 20 years young, my nationality is Irish but I have Romanian parent. I never know what to answer when people ask me where I'm from as I have an accent, so I just say "I'm a foreign Irish person". I'm a big fan of sports (NOT FOOTBALL). My favourite sports at this moment are boxing, golf, surfing and the gym. I've done boxing for 5 years but stopped as I wanted to gain size and boxing had way too much cardio in it. So I joined the gym and I'm addicted to the gym. I train 6 days a week and my weekly gym plan is Push, Pull, Leg day and repeat. During my Push days I train chest, triceps and shoulders as to train those muscles you do exercises that involve a push motion. For Pull day I train my back, biceps and forearm as those muscles involve a pull motion to train them. And, leg day is just legs (LEAST FAVOURITE DAY IN THE GYM). The rest of the
