Game Idea Research

 Hi all!

Today I finally decided what game idea I will proceed with. Getting my feedback from my lecturer I am happy to say I will go with my first idea, which is the training shooting game. By the way if you haven't read that post heres the link to the blog post

Getting feedback on my game ideas the two ideas I was trying to choose between were the car game and the shooting game. Doing research on game design for my other assignments and thinking about the game made me realise that the car game isn't what I'm trying to achieve as that game doesn't exactly have a goal.

Thinking about the shooting game, I started to visualise what I want the game to look like. Firstly, I want the game to have different difficulty levels. I also want, if possible to have 2 or 3 gun choices to choose from. If thats too hard to do I'd like to have the option of the gun setting to choose between automatic or single shot. Finally, I would like to have a window at the top side of the screen that shows your target count.

I learn easier by visuals and I wanted to have a better understanding of how the mechanics of a FPS (First Person Shooter) game work. Doing research, I came across this tutorial made by @JimmyVegas. Jimmy shows you how to create an FPS game step by step. Watching his tutorials helped me understand how to create the world, a crosshair and so on. I was shocked seeing how much effort goes into sound and visual effects. The finish game (by Jimmy Vegas) isn't what I want to create as this is a zombie game. This is how Jimmy's finished game looks like!

This is a Screenshot taken by me of Jimmy's video

The further I look into creating this game the more exciting I am to begin!

This is the link to the playlist of the tutorials I had a look through.

I can't wait to begin my journey in creating a my OWN game!

I will see you guys the next time,

Denis.

  1. Hi Denis, it's Aoibhe. Loved your game idea research blog post! Glad the feedback from Shaun helped you, it helped me too. I love your idea of a training shooting game. Sounds like a fun game & one that I would not be good at at all ! I like the idea of you giving players a number of different gun choice. Always good to give people options. I wish you the best of luck with your project & look forward to seeing your game! Good luck, Aoibhe.

  2. Hey Danis
Really like your idea, It's very different compared to what most people are doing. I think the idea of giving the player gun options is great and also like how you plan to have a game progression.
I was wondering if you considered keeping the game on one level and giving the player some aims to achieve in that one level. and also what if you could implement something to each gun like something that can be used for for specific situation like a sniper gun which was allow the player to kill from a far distance.

Reading 09

Hi all. This week we have focused on fixing our papers. This was challenging as I find it hard write academically. I am glad to get the chance to improve my writing. For this week I have rewritten my introduction and conclusion as I believe they weren't good. I also fixed up my paragraphs where I found mistakes.  I am pretty happy with how it is at this moment and I am happy to continue on with my weekly tasks after Easter break. I hope everyone will enjoy this break as we all need it. Thank you, Denis.

Technology

Good evening. I'm back! This week I found out about some tools we will be using throughout  this semester. So far I can say I'm really excited to create graphics using canvas, cheezburger and so on. I can't wait to figure out which of those will work the best with my workflow.  I think trying out Wordpress will be good. I like the idea of trying out different tools as you never know which works best for you until you try it out!  There's a picture of the first dinner I had in Crete. I hope your craving pizza now! Because I am... See you next week! Or later on today.. Bye, Denis.

Unity Tutorial 06

Today I have done another tutorial and a challenge.  Screenshot of the Unity Tutorial Doing this tutorial and challenge I have learn to add sound effects and music in the game. I found that really cool as the game did feel slightly dull without it. This tutorial was fairly easy so I wasn't struggling. The challenge on the other hand was what I expected. A challenge that was nerve wrecking at times.  I never thought of adding music to my game and now that I have done it. It really made me think of the different genres I could be choosing from. I need to start looking at gun shot sound effects too. The challenge game was pretty fun too. It reminds me of flappy bird in some way.  Overall I'm really glad I got to do this tutorial as it made me realise of one part of creating my game I have not thought of until this point. Thank you all again for stopping by.  See you later, Denis.
