Game Idea Research

 Hi all!

Today I finally decided what game idea I will proceed with. Getting my feedback from my lecturer I am happy to say I will go with my first idea, which is the training shooting game. By the way if you haven't read that post heres the link to the blog post

Getting feedback on my game ideas the two ideas I was trying to choose between were the car game and the shooting game. Doing research on game design for my other assignments and thinking about the game made me realise that the car game isn't what I'm trying to achieve as that game doesn't exactly have a goal.

Thinking about the shooting game, I started to visualise what I want the game to look like. Firstly, I want the game to have different difficulty levels. I also want, if possible to have 2 or 3 gun choices to choose from. If thats too hard to do I'd like to have the option of the gun setting to choose between automatic or single shot. Finally, I would like to have a window at the top side of the screen that shows your target count.

I learn easier by visuals and I wanted to have a better understanding of how the mechanics of a FPS (First Person Shooter) game work. Doing research, I came across this tutorial made by @JimmyVegas. Jimmy shows you how to create an FPS game step by step. Watching his tutorials helped me understand how to create the world, a crosshair and so on. I was shocked seeing how much effort goes into sound and visual effects. The finish game (by Jimmy Vegas) isn't what I want to create as this is a zombie game. This is how Jimmy's finished game looks like!

This is a Screenshot taken by me of Jimmy's video

The further I look into creating this game the more exciting I am to begin!

This is the link to the playlist of the tutorials I had a look through.

I can't wait to begin my journey in creating a my OWN game!

I will see you guys the next time,

Denis.

  1. Hi Denis, it's Aoibhe. Loved your game idea research blog post! Glad the feedback from Shaun helped you, it helped me too. I love your idea of a training shooting game. Sounds like a fun game & one that I would not be good at at all ! I like the idea of you giving players a number of different gun choice. Always good to give people options. I wish you the best of luck with your project & look forward to seeing your game! Good luck, Aoibhe.

  2. Hey Danis
Really like your idea, It's very different compared to what most people are doing. I think the idea of giving the player gun options is great and also like how you plan to have a game progression.
I was wondering if you considered keeping the game on one level and giving the player some aims to achieve in that one level. and also what if you could implement something to each gun like something that can be used for for specific situation like a sniper gun which was allow the player to kill from a far distance.

Introduction To Someone

Welcome back! So today I will introduce myself. Talk about things I like doing and things I don't. Well, I'm 20 years young, my nationality is Irish but I have Romanian parent. I never know what to answer when people ask me where I'm from as I have an accent, so I just say "I'm a foreign Irish person". I'm a big fan of sports (NOT FOOTBALL). My favourite sports at this moment are boxing, golf, surfing and the gym. I've done boxing for 5 years but stopped as I wanted to gain size and boxing had way too much cardio in it. So I joined the gym and I'm addicted to the gym. I train 6 days a week and my weekly gym plan is Push, Pull, Leg day and repeat. During my Push days I train chest, triceps and shoulders as to train those muscles you do exercises that involve a push motion. For Pull day I train my back, biceps and forearm as those muscles involve a pull motion to train them. And, leg day is just legs (LEAST FAVOURITE DAY IN THE GYM). The rest of the...

Game Vision Statement

SMtraining SMtraining is a shooting game. In this game you train on different targets. There will be a timer for you to find and shoot those targets. SMtraining stands for "Single Mode Training". The genre of this game is FPS (First Person Shooter)/Action. Layout The game will be provided with a menu to start off with. This menu will contain the following, the game logo or name, a "PLAY", "WEAPON", "QUIT" button. The following are the two menu layout options I have so far: If the player presses the "WEAPON" button will bring you to a different page where you can choose between three different type of guns. The gun option will be an AK-47, Shotgun, Pistol. The layout I came up with for this page is very simple and straight to the point.  When the play chooses their gun option it will bring them back to the main menu where then can press "PLAY". When the player presses the play button it will bring them to another page were th...

Game Design

I'm glad to see you back! Today we will talk about games. I have read 3 articles that I'm excited to tell you about! Image of Pac-Man's arcade game The first article is based on the idea "What is a Game?". This article talks about what people think a game is. It says that there's no proper definition and that you will get a different answer from every person you ask that works in the industry. Reading this article the main key points that are stated are that a game is voluntary, that if you are forced to play it it's not a game anymore. The writer also talk about the structure of a game. A game has to have an objective, an outcome, and rules to get there, a conflict, and the player also have to make decisions as he/she plays the game. Games usually have a story to go with it to make it more interesting. There are also games that are more linear, that don't exactly have a story such as "Snakes and Ladders". If you want to read it in depth you ...
